Travel Cheap – The Consolidators Role

March 26th, 2012

Again, the battle to find a good airline ticket is nothing easy. There are many strategies and as a general recommendation I always give a first answer, that is to always avoid the search engines such us Orbitz and similars. Yes, they have a good reputation. Do you want to know why? Because they find a flight that is not very expensive, you pay for it, and you forget. No time invested, quick and easy.

But, do you know that using this search engines I was told to spend more than 1,700 euros for a trip to New Zealand from Spain and when looking at it with some different strategies I know I found the same trip for just 1,002 euros?

Apart from this first and main point, there are several things that can be done in order to get cheaper airline tickets. One of them is to look for travel consolidators. Airlines have very accurate statistics of how many empty places are going to be in their flights according to historic data. Some of this expected empty places are sold to independent consolidators that can sell them at a very low price.

The problem is that those guys are normally not known in the market, most of times they do not even have a web-page and you only can contact them by e-mail or by telephone to be able to work out your proposal. Airlines do not have direct control of the price that those places are sold for, they only know how many of them have been given to every consolidator.

It is important to understand at same time, that the media has kept pushing us to get last minute deals. This can be true in some occasions, but I can promise that more than 90% of times this simply won’t happen. The result will be yourself looking at how your dream vacation has gone because this so much expected cheap tickets are not there at the prior time of your flight. And if they are, there is so many people expecting the opportunity to jump on them, that you will be lucky if you have the chance to grab one.

As another important recommendation I would like to ask all of you to join for free every single frequent flying program that you find. There are many possibilities in order to win points with this programs, and most of them are not properly explained on their web-pages, or they will make you focus in other things before being able to find out. » Read more: Travel Cheap – The Consolidators Role

As far as it is possible, it is always recommended to take your eastward flight early in the morning. In any case, this is something that can be difficult to find, as many airlines prefer to fly during the night for most of the eastward flights, as time goes by quicker and they instead can use the hours with maximum level of passengers flying westwards, where time will go by slower.

Finally, once you arrive at your destination, there are some rules you can follow during 1 or 2 days in a way that the effects will dramatically disappear in a short period.
